That was the case in January. After the uprising at the United States Capitol building, web hosting companies and domain name registrars decided they'd had enough with sites that might have been used to coordinate the attack, and other sites that glorify violence and spread hate. Amazon told Parler to find a new hosting provider. At the same time, Parler decided to move its domain from DreamHost. And GoDaddy told AR15 .com to find a new registrar after finding objectionable material in its forum. Both of these sites moved their domains to Epik, a domain name registrar that has courted controversial sites. The debate over what role domain name registrars and registries should play in thwarting extreme content is unresolved. Some "low stack" entities want nothing to do with the decisions. Others don't like making the decisions but also don't want to have the content associated with their brands. Look for more debate about this throughout 2021.
