Welcome to the DomainNameWire.com newsletter.
ICANN's new TLD program has its share of setbacks,
especially when it comes to personnel and conflict-
of-interest accusations.
Today it got worse.
Longtime ICANN employee and Chief Strategy Officer
Kurt Pritz resigned citing conflict of interest.
Although ICANN didn't specifically say what the
conflict was, it appears to be related to the
new TLD program.

Pritz has literally been the face of the new TLD
program. He's withstood grilling in Washington. He's
stuck to the course through thick and thin.
According to ICANN CEO Fadi Chehade's notice
about the resignation, Pritz immediately communicated
the conflict to ICANN when he became aware of it.
He was also offered a different position in the
organization.
All of that brings up questions about how egregious
the conflict was and how innocent the mistake was.
I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot more -- much of it
speculation -- in the coming weeks.
